“No Exit” Art – Works on Paper by Nonconformist Artists

“NO EXIT” ART

works on paper by nonconformist artists
from the 1950s to the end of the Soviet era
from private collections

 13 November 2010 – 14 January 2011

Works on Paper includes more than fifty works by twenty five artists in various mediums on paper, including pen and ink, watercolor, gouache, tempera, collage, and etching, from collections based in the USA. Dating from the Thaw of the 1950s through the end of the Soviet Union in 1991, the works represent historic trends in Nonconformist art as well as current explorations by those artists, providing a new look at the diverse directions pursued by the artists. The exhibition emphasizes the creative search for inner freedom through the media on paper, allowing us to trace the development of artists as they define their identity in an art historical context, rather than encyclopedic.
